Stepping Stones

The blue of the evening drifted in as I sat on a rock at the water's edge on this first day of fall. My thoughts drift around in the memories of life.

I remember a dear friend who once said that a friendship between two people is like the connection between two islands that is built up by placing rocks in the water to bridge the distance, the rocks being pieces of self that are put out there, bits at a time. A peaceful way to think of building that bridge - slow and steady, solid.

I also think of the steps on my life journey and how there are always more steps to take with the horizon seemingly an unknown at times. So many unknowns. But, nature persists and a change of season is always a given (at least here in the north woods :). Welcome Autumn!
