Boathouse Line-up

While the boathouses share common threads of corrugated metal and weathered wood, some are freshly painted, others are have peeling layers, often with persistent rust creeping along panels.

This photograph is one of three currently on exhibit at the annual Ely Greenstone Juried Public Art Show in Ely, Minnesota.

Full Moon on Stuntz Bay

Last night I put the canoe in at Stuntz Bay and paddled out just as the sun was sinking below the tree line on the western shore. Just a very slight breeze and a mostly clear sky made for a peaceful evening on the water, enjoyed by me and by the people ferrying out to their cabins for the holiday weekend. The full moon came up over the hill with a brief disappearance behind a lingering cloud, urging me back to shore. (Click on the third image to see the Big Dipper in the sky above the boathouses.)

Smooth water

With snow still on the ground and ice on the lakes, we dream of open water and an abundance of green, green, green.  This image is from last fall when evenings were warm and the water was open.  

Moon over bay

The ice is holding out.  Some brave souls drive through the slush pit near shore on Lake Vermilion and out onto the lake.  They must know the lake and ice situation really well.  Today I watched them drive out and come back through an hour later.
