Happiness...

Happiness... and sweetness.
Sometimes it's that easy,
if we allow it to be.
That's all for today.

Cotton grass

This week I found ripe blueberries - yum! But the treasure of the day was finding cotton grass this late in the summer and in a location that I could access without hip-waders! Driving north to Ely six years ago, I was mesmerized by the shining white puffs amidst the greens of the bogs. Numerous times I would stop along the road, hoping to find a way to get up close to these gems; alas, I was always stymied by the water levels and a lack of tall waterproof boots. This week I followed the treasure trail of blue over rocky terrain until I reached a small marshy area. The cotton "flowers" were a happy surprise, and even better was the realization that the water level was pretty low. So... with camera in hand, I carefully stepped out to the cotton grass. Yes, my feet did get wet in my inappropriate footwear - a minor inconvenience for a long awaited meeting.

swimming in cool...

Yes, we've had another steamy day in the northwoods.... Here's hoping the forecast for 70's on Thursday holds true. Please. I'd prefer to be swimming in cool... blue...

News - July Events

If you have a craving for blueberry pie and are wondering where to browse through Heidi Mae's photographs, come to Ely's Blueberry Festival July 29 -31! The festival is one of the main summer events in Ely, Minnesota and hosts a variety of art and crafts, food and music. Heidi Mae will be at Booth #12, which is located towards the middle/east side of the tent row along Sheridan Street. You can find out more on ely.org. And, be sure to stop by my tent, I'll let you know where you can find the yummiest blueberry treats of the day! (Don't be surprised to find out that while I will share where to find the festival treats I definitely will not give away my top secret blueberry patch ;)

Coming up next weekend is the Greenstone Gala, the kick-off event for the sixth annual Greenstone Juried Art Show, on Saturday, July 23rd. This year the exhibit will run through July 31 to coincide with the Blueberry Festival. Heidi Mae will have 3 fine art photographs in the exhibit this year. Purchase gala tickets and find more info here.

Peace at day's end

With the mist softening the distant shore, the tranquility of the lake was a soul restorative after the busy-ness of this day. Savor these summer days!

first steps

This thoughtful little guy was considering some first steps, a serious business, but then he opted for all fours, a faster proposition at this point. These photos were taken a few weeks ago, and I would guess he's walking all on his own by now!
