From the Weekend: Ely ArtWalk & Winter Festival

The 2012 Ely ArtWalk features 150 artists with 500 pieces of art placed in 50 storefront windows. This together with the Ely Winter Festival and fabulous weather made it a great weekend to be out and about in Ely, Minnesota!

Here are a few photos to give you a teaser of the ArtWalk route, which will be up through February 12th.

The exhibit this year has artwork from many talented artists. Consie Powell's sketchbooks are absolutely delightful! The Ely Surplus window displays a selection of her sketches and notes from experiences in Ely. Up Sheridan Street, I enjoyed Cecilia Rolando's collection of graphic drawings with poetry for the seasons and Heidi Pinkerton's spectacular aurora photographs. Other local artists include Shaun Chosa's paintings, Anna Shallman's exquisite beadwork, and the list goes on... go walk the ArtWalk to see it all!

After meandering the ArtWalk, I made my way to Whiteside Park to check out the snow sculptures just as the sun was setting. Minimal snow and then unseasonable warm temperatures were additional challenges for the sculptures this year. One of my favorite sculptures is "The Three Voices". This photo shows just one side of the sculpture.
