This afternoon I went for a hike to the river. As I moved out of the trees, I looked upriver to see this deer watching me. I immediately stood still. But, she, with the instinct to survive in this land of multiple predators, stepped away, paused for a minute, and then walked into the woods. (Click on the image to see it larger.)
